Our Kiki Bride Abi, shares all about her stunning Yorkshire nuptials in this exclusive Q&A, the autumn bride shares her insights on planning a memorable autumn themed wedding, from dress to location setting.
Why did you choose to have an autumn wedding?
We decided on an autumn wedding because it is honestly my favourite season, there's something magical about the season. The vibrant colours, the fashion, the weather (when it's not raining) and the cosy, intimate feeling that autumn naturally brings really spoke to us. It was the colours that I was instantly drawn to when planning the wedding.
How did you incorporate the seasonal theme into different elements, such as the venue and decor?
We embraced the autumn theme with a rustic Yorkshire venue, surrounded by vibrant trees and open fields, letting nature play a key role in the decor. Warm tones like burnt orange and gold were carried throughout, with my bridesmaids in burnt orange dresses and the groomsmen in deep green suits. The decor complemented this palette, featuring lanterns and foliage centrepieces for a cosy, seasonal touch.
Are you able to tell us a little bit about the process behind planning your wedding? Were there any particular challenges that you faced?
I honestly loved planning the wedding – I know that is controversial but as a visual merchandiser, I was in my element. The decor and styling I knew exactly what I wanted and I did everything myself, (with help from some talented friends). The hardest part was probably containing my ideas with my husband's budget spreadsheet! Luckily, we balance each other out in there!
What made you choose Kiki McDonough jewellery, and how did you style our jewellery to complement your wedding theme and final bridal look?
I was instantly drawn to the beautiful colours Kiki uses in her jewellery. I knew I didn't want to do the traditional ‘something blue’ so I went with the Citrine Mini Diamond Cushion earrings because they brought in the seasonal colours and matched my bridesmaid and even my flowers. I have been told that my colour season is Autumn, so Citrine was the perfect colour in the Yellow Gold setting. The jewellery perfectly completed my bridal look, adding a touch of sparkle to my beautiful, classic dress designed by my incredibly talented friend.
What advice would you give to brides planning an autumn wedding?
Don't stress about the weather – ‘What will be, will be’. If you are having a UK wedding there is honestly no guarantee on the weather whatever season you are getting married, so take one stress off your shoulders and just buy some cute umbrellas just in case!
Were there any highlights from your big day, anything you feel made it extra special?
We had a surprise for all our guests in the form of a fireworks display in the evening. Bonfire night has always been one of favourite days of year, growing up my family always celebrated with a party with all our close friends and family. My husband knew it meant so much to me he even proposed on the 5th of November. So really, we couldn't have a wedding without fireworks!
