Introducing Carousel...
A statement collection showcasing circular motifs in vibrant colours to represent the dizzying motion of a carousel ride. Kiki fondly remembers her trips to the funfair as a child and the innocent joy of being swept around in circles on the back of a bobbing horse, Carousel is a celebration of memory and nostalgia.
To celebrate our newest launch, we sat down with our design team to discuss the inspiration for this collection and the rainbow of gemstones used to create it.
What was the inspiration for the collection?
Kiki fondly recalls going to Battersea Fun Fair with her father as a special treat during her childhood summers. She loved the spinning lights and colours of the rides, especially the merry-go-rounds. This collection is inspired by the circular motion of the spinning rides, which has been translated into glittering circular earrings and pendants. The baguette-shaped stones perfectly mimic the panelling seen on carousel ceilings and the vibrant gemstones remind Kiki of the decorated horses on fairground rides, each with individual names, colours and patterns.
Where do the stones come from?
The stones in this collection have been sourced from suppliers Kiki has worked with for over two decades. These stones originate from various parts of the world. Tourmalines can be found in Africa and Brazil, while tanzanites are exclusively mined in Tanzania. Mexico is known for its fire opals. Brazil is also a source for aquamarine, green beryl, and golden beryl, while morganite comes from Madagascar.
Once the rough stones are acquired, they are sent to skilled lapidaries (stone-cutting facilities) in Germany. These German craftsmen have perfected the art of stone cutting over centuries. Kiki, along with her design team and a gemmologist, carefully selects the finest stones.
Are these pieces suitable for every day?
Absolutely! The injection of colour is certain to brighten any outfit, whether that’s jeans and a white shirt or your evening attire, Carousel will take your look to the next level with a vibrant sparkle.
Is this collection suitable for all generations?
Yes! There are varying styles of earrings in this collection to suit all ages, face shapes and preferences. From more traditional diamond hoop earrings with a swinging motif to more adventurous earrings that curl around the ear, there is something for everyone in this collection. Careful consideration was given to gold colours in Carousel, ensuring that warm and cool-toned gemstones paired together in perfect harmony, creating bold and wearable colour combinations for both white and yellow gold lovers.
Why the focus on earrings?
Kiki’s favourite category of jewellery is earrings. They sit the closest to the face and brighten the wearer’s complexion and mood which is fitting for the joyful tone of Carousel. The sapphire curl earrings are one-of-a-kind and therefore not repeatable. All other styles can be repeated in similar colours, but all stones will be unique.
